After being away from Apple for 12 years, he returned in 1997 and turned the company into Microsoft`s great rival.
Co-founder, president and chief executive officer of Apple Inc. Steve Jobs was born on this day in history, February 24, 1955. His wealth is estimated at 5.4 billion dollars, according to Forbes` list compiled last year, and computer enthusiasts all over the world worship him as a great visionary
and computer expert.
In the early 70s, he founded Apple with Steve Wozniak and created one of the first personal computers. He is also credited for popularising the computer interface where all main actions are performed with the click of a mouse.
Still, Jobs was not at the helm from 1985 until 1997. The Board of Directory dismissed him in 1985 and he founded NexT, a company for the development of business and educational platforms. Apple bought NexT in 1997 and Jobs returned to his old company.
Furthermore, a year after loosing Apple, in 1986, he bought a share in LucasFilm and turned it into one o the leading computer animation studios – Pixar. Later on, in 2006, the company was bought by the Walt Disney Company and Jobs became one of the greatest individual shareholder of the animation giant.
Since his return to the company in 1997, Apple became a big competitor in nearly all computer multimedia areas. The iPod, incredibly popular and innovative mp3 player lived to see its eighth reincarnation, while Macintosh, known as Mac, is more wide-spread as a computer platform and is rumoured to be stable and highly advanced, although incompatible in may cases.
We also have Jobs` latest golden goose, the iPhone, which has revolutionarised the appearance of new mobile phones in just a few years, as well as their interfaces.
Jobs is currently not present in the company due to health problems.
