Gunmen Attack 2 Shell Oil Flowstations In Nigeria

Text

It was not yet clear whether any oil production was affected by the attack in Nembe Creek in Bayelsa state.

Two oil flowstations operated by Royal Dutch Shell in Nigeria's Niger Delta were attacked by gunmen early on Tuesday, three security sources said.

It was not yet clear whether any oil production was affected by the attack in Nembe Creek in Bayelsa state.

The military and Shell officials were not immediately available for comment.

Violence in the Niger Delta, the heart of Nigeria's oil and gas sector, has cut a fifth of the country's oil output in recent years.

Nigeria's most prominent militant group, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, last month ended a five-month-old ceasefire and threatened to renew attacks against the oil sector.
