Iraqi violence leaves 6 dead

AL-ASOUD, Iraq, Jan. 22 (UPI) -- Gunfire and and a car bombing have left six people dead and three others wounded in Iraq Sunday, police said.

Gunmen opened fire at an Iraqi checkpoint in al-Asoud, about 37 miles north of Baghdad, CNN reported.

Two police officers, a member of the pro-government group Sons of Iraq militia and two of the gunmen were killed, police said.

A car bombing in the al-Dawasa commercial district in Mosul -- about 260 miles north of Baghdad -- left at least one person dead. Three people, including two police officers were wounded in the bombing.
