Italy will propose at the Group of Eight summit in July a plan to help developing economies by giving them a percentage of tax revenues, Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi said in an interview with the German newspaper Bild. "
We will propose a 'Detax', a fiscal mechanism that targets a percentage of tax revenues for developing countries," Berlusconi said in the interview to be published in Monday's edition of the newspaper.
"We need to face the crisis and work for a recovery, but also concern ourselves with reducing inequalities in the world."
Berlusconi also said he planned to use the summit to improve dialogue with countries like Brazil, China, India, Mexico, Egypt and South Africa.
Italy hosts the G8 leaders' summit on the island of Sardinia and Berlusconi wants to make his mark by speeding up the group's expansion to include emerging economic powers like India and China.
