Police said the death toll was likely to increase
"It was a head on collision between a bus travelling towards Nairobi and a trailer truck going to Mombasa and happened shortly after midnight," said Eric Kiraithe, police spokesman.
Crashes are common in the east African country due to the dilapidated roads where corrupt policemen are often bribed to overlook unroadworthy vehicles, overloading or reckless driving.
Police said the death toll was likely to increase.
