Kurds protest Iran, Turkey bombings

Text

ARBIL, Iraq, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- The Iraqi Parliament suspended its session for 30 minutes Thursday after a demand by the Kurdistan Coalition over bombing along border areas, an official said.

The head of the Kurdistan Coalition in the Iraqi Parliament had presented a memorandum to the Parliament's speaker, demanding the suspension of its session for half an hour in protest of Turkish and Iranian bombardment of Iraqi Kurdistan. The memorandum demanded the Iraqi government take stronger diplomatic measures to pressure countries to stop the bombing, Aswat al-Iraq news agency reported.

Iran and Turkey have been bombing the border areas of the Iraqi Kurdistan region, wounding residents and damaging homes, the report said. Iran and Turkey say they are targeting insurgents in the region.
