The quake was not large enough to trigger a tsunami.
It said the shallow quake, only 6.2 miles (10 km) deep, was centered 186 miles (300 km) west of Saumlaki, in between the Tanimbar Islands and East Timor.
The quake was not large enough to trigger a tsunami but could cause some local waves.
