Man Charged Over Body-In-Suitcase Murder

Police said the 23-year-old woman was stabbed to death and her body dumped in a lay-by in a suitcase that was then set alight.

Police have charged a man with the murder of a Swedish woman whose body was found in a blazing suitcase by a main road, Scotland Yard said on Sunday.

Ugandan-born Jamal Bakhit, 24, of no fixed abode, is accused of killing Swede Rahmona Ahmedin at her home in Islington, north London, between June 6 and June 18.

Police said the 23-year-old woman was stabbed to death and her body dumped in a lay-by in a suitcase that was then set alight.

A truck driver rang 999 on Wednesday after spotting flames coming from the side of the A1301 near the village of Hinxton in south Cambridgeshire, 40 miles northeast of London.

The Metropolitan Police said Bakhit was arrested on Friday after walking into a south London police station. He is due to appear at Highbury magistrates court on Monday.
