John Abbey was found with knife wounds at a bus stop near a supermarket in West Croydon.

A 22-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a father stabbed to death in front of his young daughter just hours after his partner had given birth to his baby boy.

John Abbey, 26, was found with knife wounds at a bus stop near a supermarket in West Croydon, south London, on Thursday evening. He was taken to hospital but pronounced dead soon after.

Police charged Croydon resident Charles William Acquaah on Sunday night and he is due to appear before Croydon magistrates later.

Scotland Yard said Abbey was a boxer from the Croydon area known to his friends as "King". A post mortem showed he died from a single stab wound to the heart.

Police are still questioning two other men arrested in connection with the stabbing.
