INTELLIGENCE SCANDAL
MAY 21 2009 19:10h
Six young Muslims were threatened by MI5 and incarcerated, because MI5 wanted them to supply information.
The British intelligence service MI5 seeks associates with threats and blackmail. In a conversation with the independent, five Muslims revealed that MI5 officials threatened to declare them terrorists if they did not accept to work for them and supply them with information.
Three men said that under MI5 orders, they were confined in the airport when they were leaving Britain to visit their families.
That intelligence agency, as they say, wrongly accused them for being involved in terrorism. The young men say that one of the agents offered to withdraw a ban on travelling and free them from guilt for terrorism if they accept the cooperation. After they refused, some of them received threats.
The intelligence officers questioned another man, held him for three hours after he returned from his honeymoon in Saudi Arabia. He also said that he was threatened with a ban on travelling.
Adydarus Elmi, a 25 year old worker in a cinema, who lives in London, says that an agent called him to congratulate him on the birth of his daughter, when his wife was still seven month pregnant.
It is interesting that he and his wife did not know the gender of their baby at the time.
If you do not want anything to happen to your family, you will cooperate, said Elmi, citing the words of the agent.
Madhi Hashi (19), said that he was held in custody ion the Djibouti airport for 16 hours. He says that after coming to Britain, MI5 agents told him that he will remain a suspect until he accepts cooperation.
A similar scenario occurred to the 25 year old Mohamed Aden and Mohamed Nur.
Neither of the young men were ever arrested or accused of terrorist threats.
The MI5 did not want to comment the claims by the young men, but said on their website that their agents do not abuse Muslims.
Sharhabeel Lone, the head of the charity organization of the city of Kentisha, with whom the young men cooperated, says that the MI5 operation is Islamophobic and racist.
When the people who protect spread fear and doubt, I think that we are slowly becoming an Orwell society, says Lone.
