The al Qaeda-inspired militant group battling Lebanese troops at a Palestinian refugee camp said on Saturday it would not surrender.
"There is no way we will give up our weapons because it is our pride. We cannot even contemplate surrendering," Abu Salim Taha, Fatah al-Islam's spokesman, told Reuters by telephone.
"It looks like the negotiations until now have reached a dead end," he said from inside the Nahr al-Bared camp against the crackle of assault rifle fire.
