Some 2,000 monks and lay people left Yangons Shwedagon Pagoda and marched to the city centre on Tuesday.
The monks were carrying flags, including some bearing the image of a fighting peacock used by students in a 1988 pro-democracy uprising the generals crushed with the loss of an estimated 3,000 lives.
