Text

Damages for the destruction of parish during the action of capturing of Serb warlord Radovan Karadzic have been paid.

The Mitropolis Dabrobosanska was paid damages incurred by NATO troops during the action of capturing Bosnian Serb warlord Radovan Karadzic. Two years ago, NATO broke into the parish home because they had information that Karadzic was hiding there. In the action, priest Jeremija Starovlah and his son Aleksandar sustained injuries in the action. Aleksandar, according to his attorney, has become a permanent invalid as a result.

More than 6,000 euros paid

Derek Chappel, NATO spokesman in Sarajevo, confirmed that the damages for the parish home had been paid, but were still negotiating with the Starovlah family about the amount of damages due to injuries sustained by the priests in the unsuccessful hunt of international forces after Radovan Karadzic, Nezavisne novine wrote.

Despite the fact that NATO did not want to disclose the amount of damages, sources close to international troops say that the church had been paid 6.150 euros, based on assessments from local authorities.

Priest and son awaiting damages

NATO is persistent in their story that the Starovlah father and son had been injured as a consequence of an explosion used to break into the house, although VMA doctors in Belgrade, where they had been treated, had established that they had been beaten with blunt objects, Nezavisne novine wrote.

Miljkan Pucar, laywer of the Starovlah family, hopes that the family will receive damages for suffering permanent consequences of the break-in of NATO troops.
