On April 28, 1952 a peace treaty from San Francisco came in effect, ceasing the occupation of Japan.
At the end of World War II Japan was occupied by allied forces. This was the first time since Japan’s unification that a foreign force occupied it. After the occupation Japan was again a free country with the exception of Okinawa and Iwo Jima that remained under U.S. control for several more years.
