The chief of the German secret service said that there is a possibility that Al-Qaeda is responsible of last week’s attack in Istanbul.
According to the German secret service, Osama Bin Laden is no longer the “brain” of Al-Qaeda’s activity. However, the apparently former leader, represents some sort of Che Guevara within the terrorist organisation, the CNN reports.
- As a creative director and icon, he is still something like the Che Guevara of al Qaeda. A reference to the Cuban revolutionary who became a popular symbol of rebellion worldwide – said the head of the German intelligence Ernst Uhrlau, adding that they still believe that Osama is hiding in the mountains on the Afghan-Pakistani border.
Uhrlau stated that Al-Qaeda might be involved in the bomb attack in Istanbul, which caused the death of 17 people. Suspects came up after Kurd rebels denied having anything to do with the massacre.
- The technique of the attack, as well as the place and time, point rather to an Islamist or domestic Turkish background – Uhrlau said.
