Peru President`s Plane Makes Emergency Landing

No injuries were reported and Garcia planned to continue his trip on another plane.

A Boeing jet carrying Peruvian President Alan Garcia made an emergency landing on Monday after suffering a cracked windshield while flying to Ecuador, officials said.

The Peruvian Air Force Boeing 737 arrived at 9:54 local time (1454 GMT/10:54 a.m. EDT) in the coastal city of Chiclayo, 770 km (478 miles) north of Lima, from where it departed.

No injuries were reported and Garcia planned to continue his trip on another plane. The president's office said the unscheduled landing was made to avoid depressurization of the cabin.

Garcia was traveling to Quito, where Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa was being sworn in for another term and South American leaders meet for a summit.
