From the Lobster summit, through conflicts, deaths and religious extremism to liberation and eco-awareness.

Last week we were witnesses of a “buddy” meeting between Bush and Putin, violence in Iraq and Pakistan becoming heavier, discoveries of mysteriously killed members of political families, beginning and the end of abductions in various parts of the world and in the end, everyone hugged each other and sang in the name of love and concern for Earth.

In a summer resort of two US presidential family generations, Putin met Bush and lobster was on the menu of this détente summit, which is where it got its name from. The differences were not overcome and the two presidents had fun fishing and speedboating.

For the past seven days, Iraq was “as usual” – suicide bombers, car-bombs and deaths by land mines. Iraq was joined by Pakistan in Islamistic radicalism after a conflict of Pakistani security forces and radical Islamist Lal Masjid movement. President Musharraf told the militants to surrender or they would be killed.

Lifeless body of a 45-year-old US army attaché Thomas Mooney was found in Cyprus. The same day, son of Chad president Brahim Deby was found dead in France, who was supposed to have succeeded his father Idriss Deby in the presidential seat.

Long-awaited liberation of BBC reporter Alan Johnston finally happened. While the 45-year-old Johnston celebrated his release, a girl said goodbye to her freedom in Nigeria after she was abducted by the Niger Delta rebels.

The week could not go by without new controversies over President Bush`s decisions. Pardon for Lewis “Scooter” Libby, sentence to 2 and a half years in prison for obstructing a CIA investigation was dubbed by Bush`s critics as “brutal violation of the rule of law”.

The week`s end was marked by Live Earth concerts held throughout the world with a message of a greener life.
