Several thousands of Ljubljana citizens welcomed Britain`s Queen Elizabeth, who briefly took a walk in downtown Ljubljana on the second day of her visit to Slovenia, taking her photo with cameras and mobile phones.
The Queen and her husband, Prince Philip of Edinburgh, took a walk in Ljubljana, accompanied by Mayor Zoran Jankovic and their official host President Danilo Tuerk, after a ceremonial meal to honour the royal couple and 80 guests at the Ljubljana Old Town, hosted by British Ambassador Tim Simmons.
- The British Queen is a prominent person and I am fortunate that the opportunity and honour were given to me to meet her in my lifetime – said the owner of the Pipistrel company Ivo Boscarol, one of the most successful local entrepreneurs, who was invited to attend the meal with the royal couple.
Curious people waited for the Queen in front of her hotel
After a brief walk in Ljubljana and meeting the citizens, the British royal couple set out for the nearby Grand Hotel Union, accompanied by the police in civilian clothes and security, where they were staying.
Many curious people who wanted to see the Queen fathered yesterday and today in front of the hotel. After a short rest, the British royal couple will attend a programme at the Ljubljana Philharmonic, where awards will be presented to young musicians.
Slovene media have been paying a great deal of attention to the details of this high visit, especially looking back on the social aspect of the event and the formal meetings with the Queen, as well as analysis who was “omitted” or “unexpectedly invited”.
Slovenia`s firs lady in Kennedy style
The red suit of Slovenia`s first lady, Barbara Tuerk, caused great attention at last night`s banquet at Brdo near Kranj, dubbed by some fashion web sites as Kennedy type suit, seeing how it is reminiscent of a suit the first American lady Jackie Kennedy wore in the 1960s.
With assessments hat the visit of the British royal couple was exceptionally beneficial for the country`s promotion, criticism also appeared, stating the visit was not filled with “actual contents”, but was “unfilled”.
However, this is a contrast to the assessment of the leading Slovene daily, Delo which even exaggerated, as it wrote “Queen Elizabeth has introduced a touch of glamour to the provinciality of the Slovene scene after the ended parliamentary elections”.
The British royal couple will end their three-day stay in Slovenia on Thursday morning, when they will go to Slovakia.
