PhotoFossil Ida has become a celebrity, abuse in Irish church-run care homes was revealed, protests took place in Sydney…
Fossil named Ida became a celebrity this week. Scientists from the University of Oslo in Norway assessed that this is the “closest thing to our direct ancestor”. A documentary was filmed with this theme, while Ida`s photos were reported by the majority of world media.
The incident at Irish Catholic care homes also caused a lot of media attention, where thousands of children were abused. Priests beat and raped children for decades at Catholic Church-run care homes, a report claims of the Irish government Commission, published on Wednesday. Orphanages and schools in Ireland were homes to fear, neglect and sexual abuse, which was characterised as the darkest part of Irish history.
This week could not pass without protests. Pro-Tamil protestors gathered in Sydney, raising their voices against the Sri Lanka government, obstructing traffic in the city centre.
Images from Tokyo show that fear of the swine flu is still present. Everyone is wearing masks to protect themselves from the virus and the government is afraid of introducing stricter precaution measures which might harm the economy.
The British public was mostly intrigued with the verdict for the murder of a boy called Baby P. His mother was sentenced to just five years in prison, while her boyfriend, charged with raping a 2-year-old, will spend 12 years in prison.
Baby P was found in a pool of blood in August 2007 with over 50 injuries, including broken ribs.
