Pirates Seize Somalia-Bound Ship With Crew

Pirates raided a Japanese tanker for chemicals “Irene”, which was sailing under the Panama flag. The crew included two Croats.

Croatian Foreign Affairs Ministry informs that the crew is fine and is sailing towards Somalia.

- So far, we only have information that the ship is sailing towards Somalia and that the crew is fine. The ship`s motion is tracked via radar – the Foreign Affairs Ministry said.

Apart from Irene, two other ships were abducted, an Iranian tanker and a German cargo boat, according to the German Foreign Affairs Ministry.

Irene was registered in Panama and was sailing towards India via Gulf of Aden, highly dangerous waters and it was transporting cargo from France.
