Police seize cocaine concealed in frozen fruit

The drugs, with a street value of more than 30 million euros (41 million dollars), were seized in a warehouse in Viana, Spain.

MADRID, March 8, 2010 (AFP) - Spanish police seized a tonne of cocaine worth more than 30 million euros concealed in a consignment of frozen fruit from Colombia, arresting seven people, the finance ministry said Monday.

The liquid cocaine was mixed with the fruit pulp, from which it was to be separated in a laboratory before being dried and prepared for sale, the ministry said in a statement.

The drugs, with a street value of more than 30 million euros (41 million dollars), were seized in a warehouse in Viana, in the northern region of Navarra, on January 27.

Seven people of various nationalities were arrested.

Spain's close ties with its former colonies in South America, a major cocaine producing region, have made it Europe's main entry point for the drug.
