During the past year, politicians have concerned us with serious economic problems, but made us happy with their numerous gaffs. So we will remind you of their funniest statements.

During the American presidential pre-elections, Hillary Clinton remembered her visit to Tuzla in Bosnia Herzegovina, and spoke of her frightening ordeal when she was attacked by snipers.

Hillary under sniper fire or not…

“I remember landing under sniper fire” “There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base” said Hillary. However, the American media soon published a recording of her calmly exiting a plane, greeting citizens and laughing. Besides that, Hillary showed that she does not know how to use a coffee machine, and broke down a couple times during the campaign, which the media portrayed as a fight for women’s votes.

Hmm, how many states does the USA have?

Barack Obama was not flawless either, and admitted that he does not know how many states the USA has. At a pre-election rally in May, he said that the hurricane in Kansas destroyed the whole city and killed ten thousand people. However, the number of people killed was “slightly” less, 12 people were killed.

Besides that, Obama provoked anger from his rival’s Republican headquarters after commenting that McCain’s politics “put lipstick on a pig”, after McCain chose Sarah Palin for a running mate.

John McCain was not behind Obama either. He declared plumber Joe a national hero, after he presented him as a worker fearing for their job.

Later it was determined that he was not called Joe at all, and that he is not a plumber. Apart from that he said that the foundation of the American economy is strong, just at the time that the economic crisis knocked at the door. The headlines of the world media were decorated by a photograph of McCain looking like he was trying to grab Obama’s butt whilst sticking his tongue out.

On one occasion McCain compared Obama to Paris Hilton, which she answered by starting up her own campaign, in a bathing suit.

Sarah Palin did not know where Africa was, nor the vice-presidential duties

Sarah Palin certain led the race in gaffs. Besides becoming an inspiration for adult films and beauty contests, she showed her lack of knowledge.

Sarah Palin did not know what the vice-presidential duties were, and supported her experience in foreign politics with the fact that the Russian president must fly over Alaska in order to get to Washington. Besides that, she did not know where Africa was, nor which countries are in NAFTA. Some people resented the fact that Palin spent a lot of money, and many Republicans turned against her.

Gaff machine Joe Biden delighted too

Obama’s running mate Joe Biden also made us laugh this year, who many call the “gaff machine”. When asked if he is able to control his fast tongue, he briefly said “yes” and prompted laughter from those present. Besides Americans, politicians from around the world also made the headlines with their inappropriate statements. When nearly all of the world’s leaders congratulated Obama for his election win, the Italian premier Silvio Berlusconi said that the newly elected American president has many qualities, amongst which are his good looks.

Obama’s tanned looks important for Berlusconi

Berlusconi said, speaking about Obama, that he “has all the qualities to get along well with you: he’s young, handsome and suntanned, so I think you can develop a good working relationship”. Even though all condemned his statements, Berlusconi did not give up, and at the next meeting in Brussels in November, he showed everybody his new watch, featuring a picture of Obama.

“I shan't wear it, I just brought it to make my colleagues laugh” said Berlusconi.

The premier of Republika Srpska also shocked the public when a journalist from the federal television magazine “60 minuta” asked him a question. He answered by saying “I do not give a f***”.
