Prison For Imam Due To Paedophilia Over Girls

Imam Zuhdija Mulalic is sentenced to 2 years in prison because of fornication over six girls between 12 and 16 during religious education.

Jezerski imam, Zuhdija Mulalic is sentenced to two years in prison because of fornication over six girls between the ages of 12 and 16, the Federal television reports.

Imam (55) abused the girls from May until August of last year during religious education classes in the village Jezerski of the Bosanska Krupa municipality.

His sentence was declared by the Canton court in Bihac, conducting according to the prosecution action.

The trial was not open to the media, and parents of the four girls who accused imam Mulalic of sexual harassment witnessed.

First ruling to Mulalic was reached last year when he got only eight months in prison, which was changed to three years on parole. However, the prosecution`s appeal was accepted and Mulalic was trialed again.

When the girls accused their religious education teacher of sexual harassment, the Riaset of the Islamic community was surprised and severely condemned Mulalic. He told the Nezavisne novine daily: “There are 1,800 imams and religious education teachers working in BH and until now it never happened that someone was accused of such or a similar offence”.

This is the first case of sexual harassment by a religious official in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
