The quake was most perceptible in the capital, mainly those buildings with more than three floors.
The U.S. Geological Survey said it was a 4.5 magnitude quake. Peru state Geophysics Institute put the quake at 4.3.
"The epicenter was 27 miles (43 km) southwest of the port of Callao" outside Lima, said Hernando Tavera, director of the Peruvian institute, which monitors earthquakes.
"The quake was most perceptible in the capital, mainly those buildings with more than three floors," he added.
