One prison guard was killed and five were wounded on Tuesday by a roadside bomb near their vehicle in Russia's Chechnya region, a prison official said.

The guards were riding in a convoy of vehicles escorting detainees to a local court and had just crossed a bridge when the explosion occurred, the official told Reuters.

No detainees were wounded and all were returned to the jail.
