Rockets fired from Gaza strike in Israel

Text

SDEROT, Israel, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- Seven Qassam rockets were fired from Gaza and exploded in open areas of Israel's Shaar Hanegev Regional Council but officials reported no injuries.

Security officials said the Palestinians used the cover of stormy weather and its effect on detection systems to launch the rocket attacks Wednesday, Ynetnews.com reported.

Rina Mor-Yosef, a Sderot resident, told Ynetnews.com her family was entertaining guests when "we heard a Color Red alarm and the ever familiar shrieking sound. We went down to the fortified room and heard some blasts."

Earlier on Wednesday, Israeli military Chief of Staff Benny Gantz said Gaza and Lebanon had "two of the largest weapons depots I know. These systems are maintained by Iran and sadly by Russia who sends munitions to Syria to this very day."

Gantz said the Middle East is the fastest arming region worldwide.

"The less encouraging news is that we are the target of this arming process and we need to keep that in mind," he said.
