Rosemarie claims she had no idea her husband was holding her daughter and three other children in the cellar. She changed her name and moved
Josef Fritzl appeared on Monday in court in Austria’s town of St. Poelten. He hid his face from cameras with a blue file. He confessed to rape and incest, but not to the murder of a child and keeping his daughter, Elisabeth, captive in the cellar for 24 years, abusing and raping her.
His wife, Rosemarie Fritzl, 69, spoke to the public for the first time since the case became public. She said her life was destroyed, that she changed her name and moved to another town, The Sun reported.
The media recently reported that Elisabeth suspected that her mother had known about the abuse.
On the other hand, Rosemarie claims it did not even occur to her that her husband was keeping Elisabeth and three children captive in the basement.
- People have said so many things about me, but I can't speak – Rosemarie told The Sun, adding that the only important thing for her is to keep the family together.
She also said she was broke and felt lost.
- I just want to be left alone – she said.
She decided to speak out during the trial of her husband who could get a sentence of 15 years to live in prison.
