“My mom had too much fat, but I was hungry,” is the justification that won him a milder punishment.
After the 27-year-old Russian, Sergei Gavrilov, from Samara in northern Russia, asked his mother to give him some money and after she refused, he knocked her down with a brick. He then choked her with the electric cord and dragged the body to the balcony. He took her money and went for a two-day long gambling spree.
After two days Gavrilov spent all of ‘his’ money and had to return home. Soon he ran out of food which forced him to come up with extremely bizarre way of feeding himself. To be more precise, he began chopping pieces of meat from the body of his dead mother Ljubova and eating them.
He soon discovered that he could use the meat to make soups and pastas. He even admitted to the police that “she was frozen, just like the meat from the refrigerator”. He fed like this for longer than a month.
The crime was discovered by accident after one police officer came to the apartment to check on the alleged allegations that Gavrilov was involved in the mobile phone theft. He discovered the legless body of a woman on the balcony.
Psychiatric evaluation concluded that he was mentally healthy
Although a minimum prison sentence for such brutality is 15 years, the judge ruled that Gavrilov would get 14 years and three months because he confessed the crime and admitted that he did not like eating the meat, but was simply hungry.
- I do not particularly like eating meat. It had too much fat, but I was so hungry. I had to eat it - admitted Gavrilov, Daily Mail writes.
The judge concluded that Gavrilov deserves a less severe sentence because he spent all the money on vodka and gambling, which left him nothing for food.
Psychiatric evaluation concluded that Gavrilov is mentally healthy and fully aware of what he did. This will be his second ‘visit’ to the prison because he already served a sentence for robbery.
