Russian President Dmitry Medvedev left the deadlocked UN climate summit on Friday in order to make a scheduled visit to Kazakhstan, a Kremlin spokeswoman told AFP.

Medvedev had been one of around two dozen key leaders who were closeted in Copenhagen's Bella Center on Friday, striving to break a logjam at the UN talks on global warming.

- He has left, as he is expected in Almaty tomorrow for a meeting with his colleagues from the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) - a grouping of former Soviet states, said the spokeswoman Natalia Timakova.

- His climate advisor is remaining and he has all the necessary powers - of negotiation, the spokeswoman added.
