Scottish cabbie kills 3 relatives, self
One victim was identified as Susan McGoldrick, who lived at the same address as taxi driver Michael Atherton, also known as Micky, the alleged gunman in the New Year's Day massacre in County Durham, Britain's The Daily Telegraph reported.
Assistant Chief Constable Michael Banks said the police control room received several calls just before 11:45 p.m. Sunday saying shots had been fired at a residence in Peterlee, Scotland's Daily Record said.
"The police were dispatched to the scene and shortly after midnight, as our officers entered the house, it was discovered that a man and three women were dead in the house," Banks said.
There has been no formal identification of the other victims but Detective Superintendent Paul Goundry said all the deceased were related, including the 19-year-old woman who escaped through an upstairs window at the semi-detached house with pellet wounds to her wrist and shoulder, the Telegraph said.
A neighbor, who declined to be identified, said Atherton enjoyed firearms.
"Micky was a taxi driver and he liked shooting -- it was his hobby so I knew he had firearms, it wasn't a secret," the neighbor said.
"Sue was a lovely woman. She had two children. I don't know how long her and Micky were together for -- it must have been a long time.
"They must have had some troubles in their relationship."
