Text

Vaso Todorovic was sentenced to 6 years in jail for mcrimes in Srebrenica in which he took part.

Vaso Todorovic, who confessed to having taken part in the war crime in Srebrenica in 1995 has been sentenced to six years in prison for crimes against humanity, pincom reported.

The Bosnia-Herzegovina court made the judgment after it discussed and adopted a deal between the prosecution and the defence in which Todorovic confessed to the crime.

According to the deal, the punishment was five to ten years in prison and the court decided for the punishment closer to the lower limit.

- Todorovic is guilty for taking part in searching the villages around Srebrenica on July 12, 1995, with the aim of finding Bosniak citizens, knowing that they would be forcefully displaced. A day later he took part in securing the road in the village of Sandici – the presiding judge, Senadin Bektasevic, said.

As a member of the Special Police Second Division from Sekovici, Todorovic helped kill more than a thousand residents of Srebrenica in Kravica and the forceful displacement of women and children from Srebrenica. During the killings he stood guard, making sure none of the prisoners escaped.

The court took the fact that Todorovic is ready to help in the investigation of other cases as a mitigating circumstance, as well as that he will provide evidence to the prosecution. Before taking the deal, he already testified about the existence of a joint criminal endeavour.

Before he took the deal, Todorovic was charged with genocide, which the prosecution commuted to crime against humanity.
