There is no agreement on the resolution on Kosovo independence because Serbia is absolutely against it, as is Russia.
Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said on Tuesday that the American announcement of a possible Security Council vote on the resolution to give Kosovo independence was “wrong and harmful.”
“There is obviously no agreement on the resolution because Serbia is absolutely against [it], as is Russia, which a full member of the Security Council,” Kostunica told Belgrade agency Beta.
He also said that the development of events “would be particularly irresponsible and destructive if the document’s failure at the vote serves as the impetus for the Albanian separatists to unilaterally declare independence in spite of the Security Council.”
“The Serbian government would immediately annul the decision on unilateral independence and declare it null and void because Kosmet (Kosovo and Metohija) is a constituent and inalienable part of Serbia,” Serbian Prime Minister told Beta.
He thinks that, instead of taking the utterly wrong approach, which would have immeasurable long-term consequences for the stability of the region, it is necessary to sit at the table again and start conducting real negotiations.
He also said that the meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin would be an opportunity to consider new ideas on how to ensure the reaching of a compromise solution through the process of negotiations.
