MADRID, March 2, 2010 (AFP) - An alleged Serbian "war criminal", Veselin Vlahovic, who is wanted for over 100 killings during the 1992-1995 Bosnian war has been detained in Spain, the interior ministry said Tuesday.
Spanish police detained Vlahovic on Monday near his home in the town of Altea in eastern Spain as part of an investigation into a group which carried out break-ins, it said in a statement.
He is the subject of three international arrest warrants, including one for genocide for "the killing of over 100 women and children, rapes and torture" carried out during the war.
Known as the "Monster of Grbavica," the Sarejevo suburb where he is alleged to have carried out his crimes, Vlahovic was born in Montenegro in 1969.
He was carrying fake Bulgarian identity documents at the time of his arrest.
