Skier killed in Canada avalanche

NELSON, British Columbia, Feb. 4 (UPI) -- An avalanche near Nelson, British Columbia, killed one skier in a group of 10, police said.

The slide occurred around 11 a.m. Friday on Meadow Mountain. A group of 10 skiers were caught in the falling snow along with their two guides.

One of the skiers was buried, but the guides quickly dug them out and tried to resuscitate them to no avail. There were no other injuries, CBC News reports.

The name of the deceased skier will not be released until family members have been notified.
