Slur Campaign Stronger Ahead of Primaries in Texas

Text

Hillary Clinton understands she is standing on thin ice, so after a civilised debate last Thursday, she expanded her rhetoric.

Ahead of the primaries in Texas that will show if there is any hope left for Hillary, the electoral campaign in America has taken a negative turn.

When she realised that push came to shove, that is, that Obama is taking more confident strides towards gaining Democratic nomination for president, Hillary started taking more swings at her opponent. After a ‘Shame on you, Obama’ slogan, the Hillary Clinton headquarters sent to the media photographs of Obama with a turban and today Hillary said her opponent had no experience in foreign policy, because of which he would not make a good president. Obama’s headquarters reacted vehemently to all accusations, but the statistics say the charismatic senator can have his feathers unruffled.

Obama’s slight advantage in polls

CNN’s latest poll indicates that ahead of the Texas primary, Clinton and Obama have equal support. According to the poll, 50 percent of Democrat voters will vote for Obama and 46 percent will vote for Clinton. Taking into consideration that the Illinois senator is so far in the lead with delegate votes and that his popularity is growing in polls, there is no apparent reason for him not to calmly await the next primaries that are on schedule in 8 days. Evidently, Oprah was right, however much we keep quiet about it.

Obama meets Raul Castro

The former First Lady is slowly realising she is standing on thin ice, so after last Thursday’s civilised debate in Texas, she significantly expanded her rhetoric. Today she accused Obama of being inexperienced in foreign policy, because the Illinois senator would be peace-loving towards enemy countries at one moment and attack with all he has the other.

- He wavers from seeming to believe that mediation and meetings without preconditions can solve some of the world's most intractable problems to advocating rash, unilateral military action without the cooperation of our allies in the most sensitive part of the world – Clinton said.

Hillary paid special attention to Obama’s announced meeting with the new Cuban President, Raul Castro.

- We simply cannot legitimise rogue regimes or weaken American prestige by impulsively agreeing to presidential talks that have no preconditions. It may sound good, but it doesn't meet the real world test of foreign policy – Hillary said, mentioning the example of George W. Bush as a president with little foreign policy experience who led the country into the unpopular war in Iraq.

However, many analysts agree that Obama has made evident and significant progress since the beginning of his campaign and that that is the secret of his success. Thanks to the long campaign, Obama managed to learn from his mistakes and inexperience and has become a more convincing speaker who raises people out of their chairs with no trouble at all.

Republicans trying to keep unity

The situation among Republicans is much clearer. According to the CNN’s poll, John McCain is the favourite in Texas with a possible 56 percent of votes. Mike Huckabee has 31 percent of voters’ support and Ron Paul nine percent. The Republican Party is now focusing on unifying the party that fell into deep crisis during Bush’s reign. More and more Republicans are trying to gather around one candidate and it seems that the most convincing Republican representative is John McCain.

The Texas primaries could resolve many doubts. It is a large state with a large number of delegate votes. Obama has a slight advantage over Hillary, but his lead could not gain momentum even in Texas. The voters in the home state of President Bush are mostly concerned with economy and the health care system. The war in Iraq comes third. The voters are clearly stating that it is time to turn towards domestic issues instead of waging wars with no victors. We will learn in eight days who Texas voters think is the best candidate for the revival of the American economy, which will not be an easy task.
