Solid planet discovered outside our solar system.
Astronomers find such a finding surprising because they never discovered a planet so similar to Earth.
Scientists have found a planet located outside our solar system, and the difference between this one and all the other planets discovered so far, lies in its composition. While the other planets are made out of gaseous substances, this one is solid and consequently, very similar to Earth.
Swiss astronomer, Didier Queloz, explained that such a finding is really surprising and unexpected. In fact, the planet named Corot-7b orbits around the star every 20 hours, and since it is 2.5 million miles away from it, it is estimated that the surface temperature goes up to 1500 degrees Celsius - international media reports.
Hellish heat
Its radius is twice the size of the Earth, however, due to its ‘infernal heat’, life on the planet would be impossible. Even though this ‘Super Earth’ was discovered in February, scientists had to observe it for a couple of months before they proved its density.
The Astronomers are increasingly convinced that life on other planets is possible and many of them believe that we are on the brink of discovering the evidence that proves that ‘we are not alone’.
