Still No Agreement on Police Reform

Text

Party leaders in BiH again talked of police reform, and failed to agree on anything

Party leaders against did not manage to agree on police reform which presupposed unique police forces in BiH and is a prerequisite for signing the SAA (Stabilisation and Accession Agreement).

As Dragan Covic said, HDZ BiH President, yesterday only two, three words were missing to finish the agreement.

Key Words

Milorad Dodik, Republika Srpska Prime Minister and the leader of the Association of Independent Social democrats, said what those words were: Republika Srpska Police.

Dodik: I will not let won people in Republika Srpska

With the police reform, the cantonal police forces should be abolished, and unique police units introduced. However, Dodik's insisting on the existence of RS police is thwarting further negotiations.

- We have seen one situation in which partners from the Federation insist that RS police is out of questions. No matter how much they are against it, I see no reason why we should accept that there is no police in RS. We will not accept it. I do not wish to disappoint people in RS, and I hope that what I say represents interests of 90 % of people in RS. And I will not let them down – Dodik said.

The talks lasted four hours, and they were organised by Michael Schmunk, German ambassador to BiH.
