Subtropical Storm Andrea Forms Off US East Coast

The first named storm of the 2007 Atlantic hurricane season formed off the southeastern U.S. coast on Wednesday.

The first named storm of the 2007 Atlantic hurricane season formed off the southeastern U.S. coast on Wednesday but it was not tropical and little strengthening was expected, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.

A tropical storm watch was issued for parts of Georgia and Florida as Subtropical Storm Andrea swirled around 140 miles (225 km) southeast of Savannah, Georgia, and 150 miles (240 km) northeast of Daytona Beach, Florida, the hurricane center said.
