Three Bosnian Serbs Arrested on Warcrimes Charges

As many as 8,000 civilians from the Vlasenica region were detained in the Susica camp in northeastern Bosnia between May and October 1992.

Bosnian police arrested three Bosnian Serbs on Monday suspected of crimes against humanity during the 1992-95 war in the former Yugoslav republic, the state prosecutor's office said in a statement.

"Veljko Basic, 82, Predrag Bastah, 55, and Goran Viskovic, 54, all from the town of Vlasenica where the Susica detention camp was located, were arrested on the orders of the state prosecutor", the statement said.

The three men were due to be questioned by the prosecutor, who would then decide whether to remand them in custody pending further inquiries.

As many as 8,000 civilians, mostly Muslims, from the Vlasenica region were detained in the Susica camp in northeastern Bosnia between May and October 1992.

The camp's commander Dragan Nikolic was arrested in 2000 and sentenced by the Hague-based UN war crimes tribunal to 20 years in prison. The verdict said he enjoyed watching his Muslim prisoners raped, tortured and murdered by guards.
