Nothing was unusual about Tim, says his coach. Neighbours claim students made fun of him, and he hated women because of his teacher.
“A normal boy” is what Tim’s table tennis coach said about the 17 year old Tim Kretschmer, who killed 15 people at the Albertville-Realschule school in Germany. As we find out from BBC News, Eckehard Weiss was Tim’s coach for about three years.
“He was a normal kid. Not aggressive. Sometimes he could be quite arrogant, but then he was one of the better players, so that's understandable” said coach Weiss.
Team player
Coach Weiss claims that Tim was very talented for table tennis and that nothing could hint that he was capable of killing 15 of his colleagues and taking his own life.
He was a normal kid. Not aggressive. Sometimes he could be quite arrogant, but then he was one of the better players, so that's understandable
Weiss had not been in intensive contact with Tim since he stopped playing table tennis in his school, but remembers that Tim normally participated in the school table tennis tournament on Sunday.
During three years, which is how long Eckehard Weiss was Tim’s coach, he managed to get to know the boy well, who shocked the public with his actions on Wednesday.
Dedicated to table tennis
“He was a keen player. When he was 11, he told me he would one day want to become a professional player” said Weiss.
Table tennis was Tim’s only hobby, and this is why the boy took it quite seriously.
“Whenever a new ranking was published, he'd learn the names of the top 40 players by heart” he said.
Normal life, normal family
Eckehard Weiss said that there was nothing unusual about Tim’s life. His family was very compassionate.
“His three team-mates and I would often go round to his house after league games for coffee and cake and play table tennis in the cellar” “Tim never mentioned having any arguments at home. They seemed like a happy family” said Weiss.
He had good relations with his family and his fellow players. Coach Weiss remembers that Tim was happy in 2004 when he won at a table tennis competition for boys up to 14 years old.
“Yes that is him, that's Tim, the table-tennis player, there was nothing aggressive about him then” concluded Eckehard Weiss.
Became a hater of women
However, according to Bild, Tim left a letter to his parents three weeks ago in which he wrote that he was suffering. His teachers allegedly ignored him, and the other students made fun of him. Besides that, according to the neighbours, one female teacher bullied him and that is why he hated women.
On one occasion some boys provoked Tim so much that in the middle of a game he took an air rifle and started shooting. He allegedly broke up with his girlfriend which additionally prompted his anger towards women.
