HOLIDAY IN THE FEDERATION

MARCH 1 2007 10:36h

Today Is Bosnia’s Independence Day

Text

This is the fifteenth anniversary of the independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but it is only celebrated in the Federation.

15 years ago, 1st March 1992, the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina declared in a referendum that they want to live in a standalone and independent country. More exactly, 64 percent of the population voted that they wanted to leave the SFRJ.

Even though it should be the holiday of the entire country, their Independence Day is only celebrated in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and not in Republika Srpska.

Today is a public holiday in the Federation.
