Total Italy CEO Arrested In Rome - Police

`The police are here ... An investigation is under way and we are waiting to learn about the motives for this,` the spokesman said.

 Italian police arrested the chief executive of Total Italy in Rome on Tuesday, a senior police officer said.

The officer, who asked not to be named, said Lionel Levha had been notified with an arrest warrant at the request of magistrates in the southern region of Basilicata. ANSA news agency said the arrest was in connection with a corruption probe related to oil drilling contracts in Basilicata.

A spokesman for Total Italy could not confirm news of the arrest.

"The police are here ... An investigation is under way and we are waiting to learn about the motives for this," the spokesman said.
