TUNIS, Tunisia, Jan. 27 (UPI) -- The trial of a Tunisian television executive, accused of "insulting" Islam by broadcasting the film "Persepolis," has been postponed, officials say.

Nabil Karoui, owner and director of a Nessma TV, is charged with "insulting sacred values, offending decent morals and causing political unrest" for broadcasting the 2007 animated film in October 2011.

Islamist extremists firebombed Karoui's home following the broadcast. The trial began in November but was adjourned as a result of courtroom outbursts. After more altercations this week, the trial was again postponed until April.

"I am sorry to be here today. This is a political trial," Karoui told the British newspaper The Guardian earlier this week. "It is a trial of 10 million Tunisians who dreamed of having a democratic country."

The film is based on the graphic novel by Marjane Satrapi. It is a coming of age tale set during the 1979 Iranian revolution.
