Two Mounties shot on Alberta farm

EDMONTON, Alberta, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- Two Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers were recovering from gunshot wounds Wednesday in Edmonton after being shot at an Alberta farm, police said.

The unidentified officers were executing a search warrant for weapons on a farm in Killam, 100 miles southeast of Edmonton when they were shot Tuesday afternoon, the Edmonton Journal reported.

A suspect was also shot but the RCMP wouldn't confirm whether he was killed. At a news conference late Tuesday, RCMP Chief Superintendent Rick Taylor said the property would remain surrounded and under aerial surveillance until a second suspect was found.

"We are looking for, we believe, a second male and we do not yet know whether he is in that residence or in the area around it," Taylor said.

Edmonton police sent a Grizzly heavily armored vehicle to the farm to provide cover for Mounties searching the property, News 880 AM reported.

The wounded officers were recovering in Edmonton Wednesday with gunshot wounds to their torsos. The force declined to say if they had been wearing body armor.

In March 2005, four Mounties were ambushed and gunned down at a farm in Mayerthorpe, Alberta.
