VideoThe citizens of Bosnia can finally take a sigh of relief. Radovan Karadzic, one of the most wanted criminals in the world, was arrested.
The citizens of Sarajevo were expecting this news impatiently. After 13 years, Radovan Karadzic, one of the world’s most wanted criminals, was finally arrested.
The streets of Sarajevo were overcrowded, people waved flags, and honking horns. Bosnian media immediately broadcasted special shows dedicated to Karadzic’s arrest.
Queues of cars with people celebrating were seen in also in Mostar and in other Bosnian cities.
Bosnian Serbs disappointed
On the other hand, citizens of Banja Luka saw the arrest of Radovan Karadzic as a tragedy for the Serbian people and Bosnia’s “Serb Republic” (Republika Srpska). Many of them are angry with The Hague Tribunal as they think they persecute Serbs only.
The Police Director of the Serb Republic, Uros Pena, expects riots. Immediately after the arrest of Radovan Karadzic, he ordered reinforcements to the protection of people, facilities, religious communities and international organisations in the area of the Serb Republic, Pena stated.
