VideoGerman founded a humanitarian society ‘Merlin’s Miracles’ for helping children with burns and their families.
A marine whose 95 percent of his body was covered in burns he received in the war in Iraq has died from complications during surgery.
Merlin German, who was only 22 years old, helped children burn victims, CNN reports.
German was wounded several times in February 2005. His chances of survival were very small, but he was transferred to Germany and then a medical centre in Texas.
He spent nine months in the intensive care unit and survived 100 surgeries.
He founded the ‘Merlin’s Miracles’ fund for helping children, burn victims, and their families. The fund enabled the children and their families to go on trips and vacations and anything to alleviate the situation.
- It is very difficult to describe the sense of loss. He endeared himself to all he came in contact with. It's really impossible to describe, except to say: Imagine the loss of dear family or friend – surgeon Evan Renz said.
- This young man was clearly showing us signs he was going to fight through this from the very first minute – he said.
