VIDEO: Mud-Slinging Campaign on Hillary Clinton

Text

Footage of Hillary Clinton presented as Big Brother from Orwell’s 1984 appeared on the Internet.

The footage was evidently made by somebody from the ranks of sympathisers of Barrack Obama, if not somebody from his electoral headquarters. It is a remake of Ridley Scott’s controversial commercial for Apple computers.

Hillary Clinton was depicted in this not-so-cheap video as Big Brother from George Orwell’s “1984” book. From the big screen she addresses a pale, uniformed mass of people, with the message that she wants to lead a dialogue. But, only her monologue is heard.

Rebel in frame

At one moment, a woman with lively colours on her face runs into the apocalyptical, grey scene, carrying a mallet. Chasing after her are faceless police officers who evidently want to stop her from something. Still, she flees and runs into a hall in which a mass of grey people are listening to Clinton’s speech. The colourful woman wages the mallet and throws it into the screen, which causes an explosion and the disappearance of Hillary Clinton’s speech.

The message at the end of this anti-advertisement is that the electoral year 2008 will be nothing like the one in 1984 if the electorate votes correctly. For the election, the name of the one who “should be elected” appears, of Barrack Obama.

“Dirty” American campaigns

American electoral campaigns are known for a great deal of money invested in them, but also the imagination of spin doctors in mud-hurling against opponents and the spinning for their candidates. The harsh battle is not lead only between candidates from opposing parties. On the contrary, the first goal is to get the nomination from one’s party for which, if necessary, one behaves as harshly as possible towards other candidates.

Still, it is to be expected that Clinton will not remain beholden after this anti-advertisement. If her response is as effective and fun as the attack on her, we can hardly wait.
