The possibility of a referendum on Republika Srpska breaking away from Bosnia-Herzegovina is an illusion, Croatian President Mesic believes.
- If the representatives of three constitutive nations do not reach an agreement on the inner reorganisation of Bosnia-Herzegovina, a new Dayton will have to be organised – Croatian President Stjepan Mesic assessed, the Dnevni avaz paper writes on Friday.
Mesic said that it was clear BH had to upgrade its system in order for it to be compatible to those of European Union members.
He expressed support to the talks started by presidents of the leading Croatian, Bosnia and Serbian parties: Dragan Covic, Suljman Tihic and Milorad Dodik, however, he warned that every agreement must exclude any option of any part breaking away from BH.
The possibility of a referendum on the Bosnian Serb entity of Republika Srpska breaking away from Bosnia-Herzegovina is an illusion, Croatian President Mesic believes.
- Such a concept is an illusion, but everyone has the right to dream, including [Prime Minister of the Bosnian Serb entity of Republika Srpska Milorad] Dodik – Mesic said, adding that they had to consistently insist on constructing relations in BH, based on results of 1991 population lists, where 40 percent of the population of today`s Republika Srpska was Bosniak and Croatian.
Mesic, who is on an official two-day visit to Bosnia-Herzegovina will hold a lecture at the Sarajevo Faculty of Political Sciences about the relations of two neighbouring countries in the context of their efforts concerning NATO and EU accession.
