The underage couple got married and met all conditions for marriage under the Jewish faith, but the boy’s parents broke them apart.
A 14-year-old Israeli girl divorced her 17-year-old husband under parental pressure in “the most unusual divorce case” so far, Israeli press reported on Thursday.
The girl is the youngest divorcee in Israel. At the beginning she was against the divorce, but the boy’s parents convinced her to take that step by offering her 10,000 shekels.
The couple said their vows in front of witnesses, they exchanged rings and consumed their marriage, which are the three conditions for wedding, according to Jewish laws. But when the groom’s parents heard about the wedding ceremony taking place, they did everything to have the couple separate.
The Rabbi court in Jerusalem made the divorce ruling, saying this was a message to young people “who must understand that marriage is a serious thing”.
