Max Starkloff je bio vodeći američki borac za prava i ravnopravnost invalidnih osoba. Umro je 27. prosinca 2010. godine u 73. godini života. Bio je jedan od osnivača Paraquada, pionirskog centra za samostalan život invalida. Max je dugogodišnji aktivist i smatra se najzaslužnijim za donošenje zakona o prilagođavanju rubnika, cesta, javnog prijevoza i zgrada za invalidne osobe koji je donesen 1990. godine. Godinu dana poslije donošenja tok zakona Max je dobio i visoko odličje američkog predsjednika. Prije sedam godina je osnovao i zakladu koja pomaže invalidnim osobama.
